The Shalom Catholic Community in Brooklyn Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary

October 22, 2020 marked the founding of the Shalom Catholic Community in Brooklyn, a date providentially aligned with the feast day of Saint John Paul II. For the past five years, the Community has lived its mission of contemplative prayer, fraternal life, and evangelization—serving the Church and all those in search of God, in need of His love, and longing for an encounter with Him. A Mission in the Heart of Brooklyn Nestled between the gentrified neighborhoods of Greenpoint and Williamsburg, the Shalom Community house is surrounded by a youthful and diverse population. While these areas are known for trendy bars, restaurants, and waterfront parks, they are not commonly associated with active faith life—some have even referred to the area ...

From the suffering of war to a new life in Christ

My name is Brendan McNally. I am an artist, a language teacher, a war veteran, and a father to a beautiful 8 year old daughter. So that sounds like a lot of things, and it is. I have been many things in my life, but most importantly for this testimony tonight, I am a recent revert back to the Catholic faith.  To give a bit of background on my faith journey, I was raised Catholic and attended Catholic school until the age of 10. It’s truly unfortunate that I left the faith at such a young age, which is of course a long story on its own, but it’s a story for another time. Tonight, I’m going to focus on ...

Shalom Manila celebrates Second Mission Anniversary

In this special occasion for the community in the Filipino country, a Thanksgiving Mass took place in the Shalom House. With the presence of the Most Reverend Bishop Honesto Ongtioco, D.D. of the Diocese of Cubao, where the Shalom’s Mission House is located, the missionaries received, last Saturday (14), priests, religious and lay people to this happy moment. With gratitude during his speech, the Most Rev. Bishop Honesto Ongtioco, D.D., reminded us about the primacy of the Charisma Shalom: the evangelization through the Cross. “In the Cross, there is life. There is grace. There is salvation. Finally, there is peace. Because this, we are called to spread the Shalom to the world.”, Bishop Ongtioco said. We have the young people ...

2 years of Miracles!

Miracle! This is the best word to explain about these two lasts years of the presence of the Shalom Catholic Community in the Philippines. Miracle because this is the will of God to this country and to this people. Miracle because through this Charisma of peace God showed, and continues showing us, what is His way. The way of the true life! As a new community, and together with the Church, we are called to spread the Hope, the Love and the Joy from our God, Jesus Christ, the One who passed trough the Cross.   Two years of mission, as a foundation, we know that it is not enough. We are just starting something that really started 37 years ...

The end of an era… To begin a NEW ONE!

In September of 2017, we arrived in the Philippines for a new chapter of our missionary lives. None of us have ever lived in a foreign country before and for us it was like going on to live a new adventure that this life of following Jesus would guide us to. From then to now, we have had the opportunity of getting to know this culture in all the possible ways through food tasting, as of almost every day in the 6 first months that we lived in a farm located in a province named Masbate and even after that, experiencing the most famous delicacy of the country called balut. Also, we have had the chance of going to different ...
